Ok here's the rundown: I've known josh for about 9 months. After about the 3rd month he told me that he was in love with me. Problem is he had moved to Europe (I live in the states). So when I saw him over break I told him that if we lived in the same city, I couldn't see why not. But because we don't it would be ridiculous to try. However we continued to talk all the time, and I mean allll the time.
About 2 months later I got back together with my ex (we dated for 5 years). And before doing so, out of respect, I told Josh. He said it was 100% ok with him and that he had no problems with it at all. About 2 weeks later, comp out of the blue, he told me he wanted nothing to do with me. that he couldn't trust me, etc. Whats up with that? He told me he was ok with it and we weren't even dating! Anyways, since then I've tried speaking to him. Inviting him for coffee etc (he moved back) and he'll say he's coming, but then flake out last minute/turn off his phone/say he "lost it". But then some days he'll call me, talk to me about anything and everything. Its like he's ok with talking to me on the phone, but seeing me in person? I don't know.! Advice would be appreciated
ps. i truly don't want to lose my friendship with him. He's one of the best people I know. But at the same time I feel like Its a lost cause and I'm just disrespecting myself by trying to fix it. Especially when he's being such an ass. Help :)!!

He's hurting. Try to understand him at the moment. It will eventually return back to normal.
