im trying to learn brazilian portuguese but its hard to learn how to pronounce it the right way! can someone help me and give me tips? im looking for BRAZILIAN portuguese not Portugal Portuguese.
Hi Natalie,
Try this site: http://www.livemocha.com/ it will really help you a lot and it was made for people that want to practice a new language!
Brazilian Portuguese has a hard accent… I know. I'm Brazilian and I see how we kind of cut words in the middle, don't say others, etc.
One good way to learn how people actually speak in a country or region is watching movies made in that country. I've done it a lot, and your ear kind of gets "trained" after a while. And then you can go on to use this training to speak!
Try renting Brazilian movies on DVD and watch it with English subtitles first. Then, after that, watch it again with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. It's amazing how much you learn about pronouncing the words in the right way!
And it's fun too.
Here is a list of Brazilian movies you'll probably be able to find in DVD or you can even download them :
City of God (Cidade de Deus)
Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite)
If I Was You (Se eu fosse você)
My Name Isn't Johnny (Meu nome não é Johnny)
Just watch out for any regional movie (like some Brazilian movies that show very specific part of Brazil) because you won't be able to understand a word they're saying. It's hard even for me to get them.
Boa sorte!!

You would have to travel, and speak to Brazilian people
it is not easy to learn without proper contact with people
Brazil is a beautiful country, take a vacation.
i went there and i didn't find it expensive
the Brazilian people there are very friendly

There are many online teachers and you could go to classes. If you decide to go to Brazil don't leave the hotel after dark that's when all the gangs , drug dealers, and prostitutes come out and make sure the hotel isn't far from places make sure its in a good spot.

Hey, Natalie. I'm brazilian, maybe I can help you with something.
I'll just warn you that Brazil is a really huge country, so even brazilians sometimes have some difficulty understanding each other, depending on the region where they come from. The language is only one, but the accents vary a lot! So don't worry that much about the exact pronunciation at first.
Send me an e-mail (through my profile) if you have any questions and I'll be pleased to help you with this. Maybe you can help me with my English too!

I'm Brazilian and I speak Portuguese, English, Italian and Spanish, all fluent (learning a language is something I'm always doing, so trust me, the site and the movie technique works)!

Good luck.
